Is there a dress code for attending Broadway theater?
We get this question all the time. And the answer is NO.
The days of seeing the majority of a Broadway theater audience in tuxedos and evening gowns are long gone.
At times, you may see people in relatively formal wear if it is a special occasion for them, especially around the winter holidays. However, most of the audience will be in “business casual” attire.
But during the summer tourist season especially, you’ll see jeans, t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops on many a theater-goer. (But if you are going to be touring the city all day long, maybe schedule some time before dinner to head back to your hotel room to freshen up and change.)
Still want to play it safe? Dress pants and a nice shirt or blouse will keep you comfortably in the median of most Broadway theater-goers.
