The final opening nights of the Broadway season took place last week, and the critics have let their voices be heard:
Tony winner Jessie Mueller won raves for her performance in the new musical adaptation of Waitress, as well as the “upbeat, tuneful score” written by Grammy winner Sara Bareilles. Long Day’s Journey Into Night
Oscar winner Jessica Lange received unanimous praise from the critics for her performance in the “outstanding” Broadway revival of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night. Nominations for the 2016 Tony Awards are scheduled to be announced Tuesday, May 3rd. The mega-hit musical Hamilton is expected to receive a least a dozen nominations. For more on what to expect on Tuesday, click here.
In additional awards season news: Nominations for the 61st Annual Drama Desk Awards were announced on April 28th. Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of She Loves Me led the nominations with nine overall, followed by American Psycho and Bright Star with eight and seven nominations, respectively.
