George Takei’s Allegiance to Play Movie Theaters

  • Allegiance, the Broadway musical that starred Lea Salonga and George Takei — based on events in Takei’s family during World War II — will come to movie theatres nationwide December 13 at 7:30 PM local time. George Takei’s Allegiance: The Broadway Musical On The Big Screen will begin with an introduction from Takei and immediately move into the musical’s presentation, which was filmed during the Broadway run in January 2016. Audiences will also be treated to special behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and creators.  For more on this announcement, click here.

Broadway’s Cats Names Its Next Grizabella

  • Broadway veteran Mamie Parris will assume the role of “Grizabella the Glamour Cat” in the Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats. Parris, currently starring in Webber’s newest smash hit School of Rock – The Musical, will succeed pop star Leona Lewis in the role. Lewis will play her final performance on October 9. The date of Parris’ first performance has not yet been announced. Click here for more on the casting announcement.

PBS Documentary, Hamilton’s America Releases Preview

  • Hamilton’s America, the documentary film that brings history to life through the lens of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway phenomenon Hamilton, debuts on Great Performances October 21 on PBS as the season premiere of the PBS Arts Fall Festival.  According to production notes, the documentary “delves even deeper into the creation of the show, revealing Miranda’s process of absorbing and then adapting Hamilton’s epic story into groundbreaking musical theater. Further fleshing out the story is newly shot footage of the New York production with its original cast, trips to historic locations, such as Mt. Vernon and Valley Forge with Miranda and other cast members, and a surprising range of interviews with prominent personalities, experts, politicians, and musicians.”  For more information, and to view an exclusive trailer of the documentary, click here.
