Principal Cast Announced for Broadway King Lear
Elizabeth Marvel (Other Desert Cities, Showtime’s Homeland), Tony winner Jayne Houdyshell (A Doll’s House, Part 2, The Humans), and Olivier Award winner Ruth Wilson (Constellations, Showtime’s The Affair) will star alongside Tony & two-time Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson in King Lear next spring. Jackson, who won a Tony Award for Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women, will reprise her performance as the title character in the William Shakespeare classic. She will be joined by Marvel (as Goneril), Houdyshell (as Earl of Glouchester), and Wilson (as both Cordelia and the Fool.)
Others in the cast include Sean Carvajal, Dion Johnstone, Russell Harvard and Matthew Maher, with additional casting to be announced. Directed by Sam Gold (Fun Home) and featuring an original score by Philip Glass, King Lear begins previews Thursday, February 28, 2019 and will open Thursday, April 4 at the Golden Theatre. The production will play a strictly limited engagement through Sunday, July 7. Jackson gave a critically lauded 2016 portrayal of Lear at London’s The Old Vic, though the Broadway production will be entirely new. More details here.
