Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to Feature Current Broadway Shows
The 92nd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be broadcast on NBC and CBS November 22 at 9 AM ET. Continuing the tradition of spotlighting Broadway productions, this year’s parade will feature performances from the casts of several currently running Broadway shows. The NBC telecast will feature performances from the casts of Mean Girls, My Fair Lady, The Prom, and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, as well as the Rockettes from the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, who will bring their signature high-kicks to Herald Square. King Kong, Head Over Heels, and the Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen will be featured on the CBS broadcast of the festivities. The 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade begins at 9 AM from 77th Street and Central Park West. The procession will march to Columbus Circle, turn onto Central Park South, and march down Sixth Avenue/Avenue of the Americas. At 34th Street, the Parade will make its final turn west and end at Seventh Avenue in front of Macy’s Herald Square. More details here.
Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen Casts Jimmy Award-Winner
The winner of the 2018 Jimmy Awards (a.k.a. the National High School Musical Theatre Awards), Andrew Barth Feldman, will make his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning hit Dear Evan Hansen. He will take on the title role beginning January 30, 2019, succeeding Taylor Trensch, who will take his final bow at the Music Box Theatre January 27. Feldman, currently a high school junior at Lawrence Woodmere Academy in Woodmere, NY, won the Best Actor Award at the Jimmy Awards and then found himself auditioning for the musical, which served as a sponsor at this year’s ceremony. Feldman said in a statement: “As a real-life high school student, I relate to the character of Evan Hansen immensely. And as a performer, it’s obviously been a dream of mine to sing Pasek & Paul’s amazing score – I’m so excited to get to make my Broadway debut in this show that means so much to me and my peers.” The winner of six 2017 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Dear Evan Hansen features a Tony-winning book by Steven Levenson, a Tony-winning score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and direction by four-time Tony nominee Michael Greif. Audra McDonald and Michael Shannon Rumored for Frankie and Johnny Broadway Revival
It has been reported that Tony-winner Audra McDonald and Oscar-nominee Michael Shannon are in talks to star in a rumored revival of the Terrence McNally play, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. There has been no official confirmation or comment from reps. The play tells the story of the relationship between Frankie, a waitress who is afraid to fall in love again for fear of being hurt, and Johnny, a short order cook, who believes he’s found his soulmate in Frankie. The show premiered Off-Broadway in 1987 starring Kathy Bates and F. Murray Abraham. In 2002, in came to Broadway starring Edie Falco and Stanley Tucci, and was nominated for two Tony Awards – Best Revival of a Play and Best Actor. Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino also starred in a 1991 film adaptation. More details here.
