Moulin Rouge! Musical Announces Details for Broadway Run

The new stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmann‘s 2001 hit film Moulin Rouge! will begin Broadway previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre beginning June 28, with an opening night scheduled for July 25. Karen Olivo (In the Heights, West Side Story) and Aaron Tveit (Catch Me If You Can, Next to Normal) will star as Satine and Christian, reprising their lead roles from a successful 2018 summer run of the musical in Boston. Danny Burstein (Fiddler on the Roof, Follies) is also transferring to the Broadway production, as Moulin Rouge owner Harold Zidler. The musical is directed by Alex Timbers (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), with book by Red writer John Logan and choreography by Sonya Tayeh. The jukebox musical, set in the Moulin Rouge of Paris, follows a poet who falls in love with a courtesan. The stage production includes many of the original songs and covers from the original film and also features covers of newly released hit pop songs released since the original. More details here.

Cast Announced for FX series Fosse/Verdon

Several Broadway alums will portray theatre legends in the upcoming FX limited series Fosse/Verdon. Tony winner Steven Levenson (Dear Evan Hansen) and  Hamilton duo Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail are behind the project, which will star Oscar winner Sam Rockwell as Bob Fosse and Oscar nominee Michelle Williams as Gwen Verdon.  Joining them as series regulars are Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz as Paddy Chayefsky and Margaret Qualley as Ann Reinking. Also included in the cast are Bianca Marroquin as fellow Chicago veteran Chita Rivera, Kelli Barrett (Gettin’ the Band Back Together) as Liza Minnelli, SpongeBob SquarePants star Ethan Slater as Joel Grey, Tony nominee Laura Osnes as Shirley MacLaine, Byron Jennings as George Abbott, Aya Cash as Joan Simon, Nate Corddry as Neil Simon, Susan Misner as Joan McCracken, Evan Handler as Hal Prince, Rick Holmes as Fred Weaver, and Paul Reiser as Cy Feuer. Miranda is also expected to compose music for the series, which will showcase the Fosse choreography that Verdon performed in such shows as Damn Yankees, New Girl in Town, Redhead, Sweet Charity, and Chicago. Their collaborations exemplified a show-business symbiosis that spanned before, during, and after their romantic partnership. Complete Cast of Broadway’s Ruben & Clay Christmas Show Finalized

Full casting is now set for the Broadway holiday offering Ruben & Clay’s First Annual Christmas Carol Family Fun Pageant Spectacular Reunion Show, featuring American Idol alums Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. The production will begin previews on December 7 in advance of an opening night scheduled for December 11 at the Imperial Theatre. Joining Studdard and Aiken will be Farah Alvin (It Shoulda Been You), Ken Arpino (Mamma Mia!), Julian Diaz-Granados (Junie B. Jones), La’Nette Wallace (Rent) and Khaila Wilcoxon (Company). Ruben & Clay’s Christmas Show will see Studdard and Aiken journeying through a fusion of holiday music and entertainment featuring lighthearted comedy and great talent.
