The Cher Show – Begins November 1st
A new jukebox musical that tells the story of the early life and career of music icon Cher, using the songs in her memorable catalog.
Cher gained popularity in 1965 as one-half of the folk rock husband-wife duo Sonny & Cher after their song “I Got You Babe” reached number one on the American and British charts. By the end of 1967, they had sold 40 million records worldwide and had become, according to Time magazine, rock’s “it” couple. She became a television personality in the 1970s with her shows The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, watched by over 30 million viewers weekly during its three-year run, and Cher. In 1982, Cher made her Broadway debut in the play Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean and starred in its film adaptation. She subsequently earned critical acclaim for her performances in films such as Silkwood (1983), Mask (1985), and Moonstruck (1987), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Cher has since revived her musical career which yielded several successful singles.
The Cher Show had its pre-Broadway tryout at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre. Tony nominee Stephanie J. Block (Falsettos, Wicked), Teal Wicks (Wicked, Finding Neverland), and Micaela Diamond (NBC’s recent live Jesus Christ Superstar) play different incarnations of Cher in the musical. Completing the cast are Tony nominee Jarrod Spector (Beautiful) as Sonny Bono, Tony nominee Michael Berresse (Kiss Me, Kate) as Bob Mackie (the real-life Mackie is designing costumes for the show), Tony nominee Emily Skinner (Side Show, Prince of Broadway), Michael Campayno, and Matthew Hydzik.
